When Mara Montebrusco-Gaspari first created Igor the cat, she had no idea that where the character of children’s stories would take her.
Now she has signed a contract with LuxAnimation to make a cartoon based on the beloved character.
She said : "When I wrote the story I had all the images in mind. Also, it seemed to me quite natural to ask companies specialising in cartoons if they were interested in showing the life of this cat."
LuxAnimation did not take too much persuasion.
The books, which have already sold thousands in Luxembourg, chart the adventures of Igor the cat in the medieval town of Echternach.
There he travels around Luxembourg with the daughter of his mistress, Sara, facing dangers, making friends and completing their special mission.
Mara, who is from Differdange, hopes to be consulted on the feature film which is due to be released in 2012.
